68% of Google searches now end without a single click

SparkToro's clickstream data for early 2026: two in three US searches never leave Google.

68% of Google searches now end without a single click

SparkToro, using Similarweb clickstream panels, found that 68.01% of US Google searches between January and April 2026 ended without a click to any website. In 2024 the figure was 60.45%. A separate randomised experiment with 1,065 US participants found organic clicks fell 38% when an AI Overview appeared.

The authors note the studies use different providers and methods, so year-on-year comparisons are indicative rather than exact.

What it means if you sell to businesses

If two in three searches never reach a website, a website alone is not a sales plan. Your site still matters: it is where a serious buyer checks you out once they have your name. But the name has to reach them first.

The fix is to stop relying on being found. Know which companies are in the market this month, who decides, and why now. Then call them before they ask an AI tool for a shortlist that doesn't include you.
